How to Keep a House Full of Dogs Clean

Running a dog boarding facility out of my home means I have to be extra conscious of keeping it clean to ensure it doesn’t smell like dogs when people enter. My greatest fear is people turning their noses up when they enter! With multiple dogs I have to stay on top of it! #ad

First and foremost you DO NOT want soft surfaces with dogs unless they can be cleaned! This means carpet is your enemy. Couches (unless leather) are also not your friend. But who wants to go out and buy all new items? I love waterproof couch covers! Go with waterproof in case they take a swim or bath before heading straight for the sofa :)

I also throw a waterproof blanket over that because taking those on and off can be a lot to take on and some days I don’t want to. Plus, that moment you have it off washing will be the moment they jump on it wet.

Next is a terrific air purifier! I have two that I’ve used the past 10 years on the first and 5 years on the second. Keep that air clean and the dog smells out!

The blue was picked for the size of my main rooms. I have one up front around the main dog area and change both the internal filter and the exterior cover and another in the back of my house. It links to your phone through WiFi and lets you know about your air quality.

The Germ Guardian I have been running consistently since 2016. These have a 2 step filter you can easily change out and have the UV light feature to sterilize. I take mine outside every time I change the filters and hit it with my blower to get excess dust and dander out and they haven’t had to be replaced in 10 years! They’re super quiet and easy to use.

The last step I take on air purification is charcoal packs. These babies are just an added feature to keep my house smelling clean and fresh! Like I mentioned a house that smells like dogs is my biggest fear!

Now moving away from the smell you must also be willing to keep it clean. First comes a good vacuum that is easy enough you can vacuum multiple times a week of daily if you live in my house!

For the daily mopping I love O’Cedar or Vileda spray mop.

And for the twice a week major mops I love the O’Cedar spin mop to get the house extra clean. I use Armstrong Once and Done Floor cleaner for vinyl floors.

I’m not a fan of Febreeze. It make the dogs and me sneeze. So it must be clean in order to not need the scent enhancers. I love Foam Fresh Bio-Remedial Odor Control. I wasn’t able to find a link online so my second choice would be Wondercide disinfectant.

Mats in front of your doors with a high pile helps to clean the dog’s paws and is a great step to keeping the dirt outside!

I’m certain there are a million other things I use that aren’t coming to my mind at the moment. As I think of them I will keep updating this blog post! Feel free to message me with any favorites you have!

Dog boarding isn’t for everyone! Many of my friends and family are often heard saying “I don’t know how you do it” or “is she crazy”. I have 10 dogs living in my home on constant rotation, I can defin
