Traveling with your dog can be a relaxing, fun way for you to see the States! Everyone has somewhere they have wanted to go but did not want to go alone. Why not take your best friend along with you? With a little planning it can be an enjoyable experience. But where do you even start?

Safety first, Always!
A dog safety belt or crate for the car come first. No one wants to think of the worst case but better safe than sorry. I prefer a safety belt because my dog is very calm in the car. A dog jumping around and distracting the driver is never a good idea. Those dogs need a crate. Crates are of course the ultimate safety. If, like me, you chose the seat belt make sure your dog is in a harness. One that braces the chest can keep the impact lighter on the dog. Never attach it to a collar since that would force the weight of the dog on their neck in a wreck.
Once secured in the car it's time to think about food and water! I have looked and looked for years for a water bowl I liked and even tried to design one that would attach to the back of the front passenger seat. So far, I do not have a simple car solution, so I like these easy fill water bottles with the bowl feature attached to it. This way it can sit in the cup holder, and you can fill it as needed by squeezing the bottle.
For inside the hotel I love the Gamma2 Vittles Vault Travel food container. It holds your dog food in a sealed container, so no moisture gets into it and when you take the handle off it has a water bowl and a food bowl. Simple and easy for the hotel. You will never forget your bowls! I have been using this since 2022 and still love it!
I am a heavy believer in being able to see my dog in the hotel room. It only took one stay at a dog friendly hotel with a dog down the hall barking all night long for me to realize I need to know my dog isn't doing that to someone else. The Wyze camera can be hooked to any Wi-Fi within minutes, and you can see and talk to your pet. Essential to me! I've hooked mine up at every VRBO and hotel Fido and I have been in for years. I don’t pay for the subscription , instead if you put an SD card in you can go back and view that days footage. This way if I’m not using it at home I’m not paying a monthly subscription.
I also always have an Air tag on my dogs. I know some say they don't help you find your dog but, in my experience, they are the fastest way to find a dog. I also put mine in a waterproof case with their name and my number on it because you never know when you will be stuck in a rainstorm or Fido will want to go for an impromptu swim. Long hours in the car means you need to keep Fido entertained! I love (and so do my dogs) these bones for that task. They love the taste and it takes forever to go through a single one. They also don’t get slimy and smelly which is a major bonus!
An extra long dog leash always comes in handy with traveling. Whether you’re out exploring or walking late at night it’s easier to let them roam than stay on top of them!
Last but not least is keeping Fido’s tummy settled on a trip. It could be new table scraps or some extra stress but a happy tummy means a happy dog and owner!
